Sélections Mondiales des Vins International Wine Championship Juror in Toronto to talk about Pisco
On her way home to Peru, Lyris Monasterio Muñoz, member of the international jury at the 2013 Sélections Mondiales des Vins and Sélections Mondiales des Spiritueux International Championships , will be stopping by Toronto June 4 to 7 to talk about her favourite subject – Peruvian Pisco.Born in Tacna, in the south of Peru, within the Pisco Denomination of Origin terroir, Lyris Monasterio is a seasoned official taster, and the first woman president of the 19th National Pisco Competition 2012. Her background is engineering with a Masters in Viticulture and Oenology. She has been instrumental in the creation of the Technical Norm for the Pisco Denomination of Origin, as well the Chief of Winery at Destilería La Caravedo, the makers of Pisco Portón.
Miss Monasterio will also be representing the Peruvian Regulatory Council of the Pisco Denomination of Origin during her visit.
Lyris will be discussing Peru’s national grape destilate and its heritage, uses in mixology, and conducting workshops and tastings with mixologists and media.
What is Pisco? It is a pure, whole grape brandy from a designated terroir, the result of a single one-shot distilation, stored without additives in neutral containers, a different process from that used for its distant cousins grappa, eau de vie, aguardiente and orujo which are made from grape husks, and for traditional cognacs and brandies aged in wooden casks. A 400 year old tradition that is a new adventure every day in the hands of expert artisan producers, Pisco has become an up and coming contender in international mixology.
Miss Monasterio will be available for media interviews, demonstrations and photo opportunities during her stay. Please contact Consuelo Miller at 416-901-0988 or consuelo@mirems.com.
